Spiritual Rebel
A Positively Addictive Guide to Finding Deeper Perspective & Higher Purpose
By Sarah Bowen
Monkfish Book Publishing Company

On slips of paper, write down the names of various religions and spiritual practices, including those from more profane sources such as Star Wars. Find a pretty jar and put the slips of paper into the jar. Now sprinkle in some humor, lots of stories, and bits and pieces of inspiration from many different sources. Put your hand over the jar and give it a good shake. Now pour it all out on a table and start organizing all of it so it makes sense. In her own way, this is how Sarah Bowen wrote Spiritual Rebel.

In this charming, enriching, challenging, supportive, and heart-warming book, we’re given a roadmap to inviting more spirituality and joy into our daily lives. After telling us her story of leaving religion behind and opening to a more diverse form of spirituality, Bowen gives a workable and fun way to begin inviting spirituality into one’s daily life.

She offers three week-long segments called being, deepening and expanding. Within those weeks, she offers practices for Mindful Mondays, Talking Tuesdays, Wonder-filled Wednesdays, Trekking Thursdays, Fearless Fridays, Seva Saturdays, and Sangha Sundays. We’re given ideas and practices for breathing, service, enjoying silence, visiting with trees and animals, playing with oracles, dealing with stress and much more. These sections are fun as well as liberating.

Bowen is clear that there is no one spiritual path for everyone to follow and advises people to find what is true for their “authentic selves.” Whether you consider yourself spiritual but not religious, agnostic, atheist, or a Jedi, Spiritual Rebel has something for you.
