When It’s Time to Say Goodbye
Preparing for the Transition of Your Beloved Pet
By Angela Garner

I didn’t want to look at this book when it came in for review and I hid it under some other books for a while. Finally, I realized I was being unfair and needed to review this book so I could share it with you in case you or someone you know needs the messages it offers. So, I dug in.

When It’s Time to Say Goodbye covers everything a guardian, Angela’s preferred title for animal-parents, needs to know about the transition of one’s beloved animal. From knowing when it’s time to say goodbye to how to discuss this with the veterinarian to the possible methods used, nothing is left out. Whether your beloved pet is a dog, cat, bird, horse, or other creature, issues are addressed.

Not only are the physical aspects covered, but there is ample information about the emotional aspects of losing a beloved pet. Guilt, regret, relief, fears, and even how to deal with getting another pet are all discussed. How to help children understand and cope is also featured.

The book is overflowing with stories, some being difficult to read but all helpful and supportive. Whether or not you’ve had to walk this path in the past, When It’s Time to Say Goodbye is a compassionate guide that can help you, or someone you know, walk through this incredibly difficult process.
