Be, Awake, Create
Mindful Practices to Spark Creativity
By Rebekah Younger, MFA
Reveal Press

Although you could read this book, it will be infinitely more meaningful if you do it as well as read it. Based on the concept of contemplative creation, Younger has created a series of ideas and creative exercises that gather around the concepts of being (to exist), awakening (to be conscious, alert and aware), creating (to bring into existence), and relating (to connect to/with).

The book is designed to focus on each of these areas in turn while using the base of a daily meditation practice of some kind. Instructions are given for those who aren’t familiar with meditation. The instructions for this as well as for many of the other exercises are available in audio form on a special book website.

The various exercises are designed to help the reader open to color, sound, other senses, space, and many other life factors that can help open one’s creativity and productivity. Mostly Be, Awake, Create can help you begin to see your life as creative whether through some form of art or through regular daily activities. The book can also help artists of all kinds find validation for their life’s work and feel encouraged to share their talents with others.
