Getting Out of Our Own Way

0

One lesson I have learned as a flower farmer is that no matter how much I want that flower to bloom sooner, to get it to market earlier, it will bloom in its own time. In other words, the flower will bloom when it is ready; no amount of yelling, or jumping up and down will speed up the process. The lesson boils down to accepting that the flower never gets in its own way and, by wanting the flower to bloom sooner, I get in my own way of enjoying the process of growing flowers.

Paul writes a conversation with his Inner Voice each day, where Paul asks questions to this higher consciousness and receives answers related to living a more accepting and loving life.

How often do we get in our own way of allowing life to flow smoothly? Just like the flower blooming when it’s ready, there is much in life we can’t control. By wanting it to be different or happen in a way that pleases us, we get in our way. Do we miss the point of the process of life? When we get in our own way, life gets bogged down. When we relax and get out of the way, life flows with ease. Why is that?

With these thoughts in mind, a conversation with my Inner Voice may add clarity to the benefits of getting out of our own way.

What does it mean to get out of our own way?

Everything in life radiates energy. This energy attracts similar energy back to the source. If you are radiating positive energy, then positive energy will be attracted back to you. When you relax emotionally — stop asking the flowers to bloom sooner than they should — you allow positive energy to flow from your body. The world around you recognizes this positive energy and reacts accordingly.

When you choose to push or force life, the negative energy of this behavior changes the way the world interacts with you. Everything in life happens in its own divine time, not just flowers blooming or summer turning to autumn. There is a natural cycle to life that cannot be forced or pushed into existence. Getting out of your own way is allowing this cycle to flow naturally.

Some people would argue that they have to push life along to get anything accomplished.

Those who believe this fail to accept there may be better, healthier ways of getting things done. If life is always lived with your head down, pushing life, there is the possibility of missing something that could make life easier. Although it will go unnoticed because of the desire to push or force things into existence.

Relaxing emotionally and allowing life to flow as it should can be a challenge, there is so much to do. How do we reconcile this within ourselves?

Imagine running on a treadmill and you turn up the speed faster than you can run. All of your energy is spent trying to keep up until you stumble. There is no joy, and no room for allowing something better to come along. Pushing life is the same way. No amount of forced effort will speed progress for a positive result.

Getting out of your own way is knowing that along the journey there will always be guidance flowing to you. If you try to force life you will separate yourself from this guidance, thereby limiting the amount of resources available to you.

How do we limit the guidance available to us if we try to push life forward?

True, authentic guidance is a subtle form of energy that can be overshadowed by the energy of having a single-minded focus. Think of pushing a boulder up a hill. Your focus is on the rock and not on the possibilities that are all around you. To get out of your own way is to realize that there are easier ways to get things accomplished. Also, when you are out of your own way, you allow your ability to see the world differently to become an asset rather than a liability. Instead of focusing on the boulder, you are focused on what is ahead and you are ready to take advantage of these possibilities.

Will we get more accomplished if we get out of our own way?

You still have to do the work, but you are now allowing the process to unfold as it should. Here you may begin to see unknown options you had not noticed when you were pushing or forcing the process.

This can be a hard transition to make because we are often taught to go after life, and never stop until we accomplish our goals.

Many people assume that when they accomplish a goal, they will find happiness. They fail to realize true, deep inner happiness is the ultimate goal, which will never be realized by pushing or forcing life. To live the best life possible and find happiness and authentic love, get out of your own way, and allow life to flow to you.
